I take lysine tablets when I get coldsores. The bottle says two tablets dailey with food. What happens if I take more than two tablets per day with food? Can you 'overdose' on lysine? If you can 'overdose', what happens to you?

There should be a sheet with the tablets letting you know the answers to this. Otherwise, ring a poisons line, or google the answer. That is how I find out answers to questions.

I swear by lysine tablets and when i feel a cold sore coming i take up to 15 500mg tablets per day and during the outbreak. As a result my cold sores which in the past have been incredibly large, painful and swollen only last for about one or maximum two days and heal on the third and fourth days.

I take large quantities of Lysine when I feel a cold sore coming on, and have experienced similar results to sarahjane. It is not uncommon for me to take 15 to 20 500mg tablets a day. Like you, I was wondering about overdosing, and have done quite a bit of looking on the internet, and it appears that overdosing is not a large concern. About the only negative thing I found about mega-doses is the potential to increase your cholesterol, potentially leading to fatty deposits around the liver. IMO that should not be a significant concern for the relatively short period of time that I am taking large doses. It appears that 1500mg to 3000mg is a good recommended value to take daily to help prevent cold sores, and I plan to start taking Lysine daily at around those recommended doses.
