spiraled rebar was common 100 years ago.

I have seen round rebar, square rebar and round smooth rod all in the same column of an AC hangar being demo'd at WPAFB in Ohio. Thahangar was built in the 20's. Here's apic of square bar from about 1910 at a ghost town in Arkansas.
