Why do people defecate on themselves when going into unconscious states, AKA being knocked out? Is this is same reason or term for when people die and exhibit similar circumstances?

When someone is knocked unconscious, they lose control of their bowels, thereby triggering defecation. The same happens with the urinary bladder.

Because when that happens, your muscles are in a completely relaxed state. This means your bowels will evacuate and expel whatever matter is there involunarily. When you die, this muscle and all muscles give out (bowels, sphincter) and that is why this occurs.

The mess and smell from the defecation is the body's revenge on the person who knocked it out.

2 things to add: When humans die, they begin to decay. When they defecate on themselves it's not just that muscles that are normally tense relax, but the noxious "decay-gas" trapped inside the body put pressure on the remaining fecal/uric matter, and it is expelled. It's the same way that an uncooked sausage sometimes splits it's skin: things like botulism. Remember, not everyone who defecates on themselves in an accident is actually knocked out. Sometimes the reason an unconscious person has fecal matter on themselves is because they watched the thing that was going to knock them out hit them, and in sheer terror, they emptied their bowels before they were hit. But for the most general of cases, it's because the sphincter muscles are no longer tense.
