  • My ex always had to have a night light on. After divorcing I found I couldn't sleep without that little night light on. Not sure if its a fear, as much as a preference, though I'll admit to having had frights a few times when it burned out and I tried to sleep without it when I'd see shadows. I'd probably get over it if I just slept without it for a while, but it does provide a certain amount of comfort.
  • Where we live there are no street lights, my backyard goes into the woods and it's pitch black outside when there is no moon. I spent my first night here before we moved in our furniture and all I heard all night was creeking and thumping noises. I left the porch lights on all night, locked my bedroom door with my 2 fearless rat dogs in tow and hardly slept a wink. When our furniture arrived we plugged in all of our nightlights and needless to say my s/o keeps his shot gun loaded by the bed at all times! So yea I'm afraid of the dark and use nightlights!
  • i am sometimes slightly still afraid of the dark, but not to the point where i have to have some sort of light on at all. i never used to be fully afraid of it...the only time i get scared is when i'm camping or when i'm alone...
  • I used to be afraid of the dark up until age 12 when my Great Aunt conducted an experiment to show me that I had nothing to be afraid of. What I was seeing on the walls were shadows from passing cars and the trucking company from across the street. I would often hear noises coming from that trucking company. I used to sleep with a Raggedy Ann Nightlight that someone had given me for one of my birthdays. I can't even remember what wattage of lightbulbs it took but it had served it's purpose.
  • I still get freaked out by the dark. That's why I bring my killer dog with me into the basement ;)
  • No. When my parents lived deep in the country, I used to pride myself on my ability to get home through the woods on an overcast night when it was so dark the it literally made no difference if you shut your eyes. If it is truly dark, it is dark for everybody. What is bad is when it is light for *you* but dark for *them*. You can see from dark to light, but not from light to dark. If there is to be a light, I want it /there/, not here
