I am 23, and my boyfriend of 4 yrs wants to ask my parents before proposing. I'm worried they'll say no. They don't know him well (he lives 3 hours away) and they want me to pay off school loans first. We're adults, and we don't want to wait that long!

well i dont think your parents would say no, they would have made it clear in the first year or two if they didnt like him. But what your parents are saying makes sense. It would be much better for you to pay off your school loans rather than trying to fork out the money for a wedding, venue, dress, flowers, outfits for bridesmaid and pageboys, rings, honeymoon etc just wait a year or two and pay off what you owe, you will then be able to afford the wedding you want and it gives you both a couple more years to be sure that you are right for eachother before making a commitment of marriage. -
