I think that we should be allowed to decide. At the same time, I understand that they are just encouraging/enforcing people to be safe, but still. Its our bodies/vehicles/decisions.

I do feel that is a choice we should be able to make without being made to do so. To me it is like saying we have to wear a belt when we wear pants. I realize that they may help save lives but I like the idea of doing so because i want to not because I need some law to tell me I have to or get a ticket.

I used to think that we should have a choice in wearing one. My way of thinking had changed over the last few years because statistics show that seatbelts were saving lives. But to be honest, the last several months, alot of deaths have occured in my state, even though they were wearing seatbelts.

Any driver or passenger over 18 years of age should decide on their own if they should wear a seatbelt or not. All drivers and passengers under 18 should be ably belted in. I believe not wearing a belt is an issue between you and your insurance carrier. If you don't wear a seatbelt and you get into an accident, the odds of you sustaining a more severe injury is greater than if you were properly belted. Most, if not all, insurance carriers ask you on the application if you wear a seatbelt when in a car. EVERYONE marks that box 'yes'. If you are in an accident and NOT wearing a belt, the insurer should only have to pay your medical bills up to the amount that is equal to the cost of you being in a similar accident and properly restrained (and yes, they have actuarial tables for that). I further contend that you not regularly wearing a seatbelt and having checked the box on the form, constitutes fraud. Your premiums are based on you wearing a seatbelt. It's like lying about your age or type of car you own. They should be able to discontinue your policy.

It should be our choice dammit

I never really thought about it because I always where mine...its like second nature. But I guess its ur body if someone wants to take the chance of flying through the windsheild because they think the seat belt is uncomfortable than thats their decision....if they are 18 or over. Why someone would choose not to wear a seat belt is beyond me.
