i dont think it has really increased were just more aware now and everybody gets all excited if something happens whereas 10 yrs ago youd see an IRA bombing in london on the news and say, another one..hmph! and forget about it

That is hard to tell. There certainly is more attention to it since GWB declared war on Terrorism. I am not sure if there are really more terrorists now than earlier. The entire history of mankind is full of instances of terrorism.

The only terrorism that we hear about is when foreign entities attack the US, any country going through a war or has internal conflicts experiences terrorism on a daily basis. The mafia, KKK, neo-nazis, ALF and others are all terrorist groups, yet they are rarely reported on.

Media has advanced in technology and reach, hence we are exposed to international news which was not so when terror strikes were at it's peak. If the same media(TV,newpapers, internet etc) was available at that time then you would agree that is has come down...by and by, with the security in developed countries tightening, the attacks are more concentrated on developing countries...

I see no reason to believe it has increased over its historic levels. IRA, Red Brigades, ETA, FARC... were all active years or decades ago. The first bomb on the London Underground was in 1883. Year on year it goes up and down, but it has been a (sad) feature of big city life for over a century.
