yah, sometimes the question is so serious the writer doesnt even see the possibility for a off the wall response.

No, but I sometimes do it when I misread the question and think it's corny or dumb.

Lighten up Frances !-Oh, a couple of them sprinkled in lightens up the mood. Particularly when it is a question with only one answer and it has been already given a few times.
