Under UK law, in most cases, yes it is possible.

You can sue ANYBODY for ANYTHING. Winning a settlement however, may be difficult unless you can prove damages. In the scenario you have described, if you have made untrue statements about a previous employer he could likely sue you for libel and win a judgement.

only if they can prove it, you could counter sue for human right abuses and phone the local paper to piss them off anyway, im sure you know about a 1000 illegal things that go on in their company every day that they wouldnt like the press and the courts finding out.
