  • Hey Jammco, well im not a driver, but ive asked my hubby this question, he tells me when we're in a supermarket carpark say.. its easier if he reverses in so when he is coming out he can see other cars coming... make sense??? not to me.. lol
  • Well, it is difficult to do both, but if you are shopping, backing into a space could be useful if you want to load up the boot (or trunk) of your car from the footpath/pavement/sidewalk instead of the road.
  • LMAO, I had this very argument with my ex-husband years ago. It took him much longer to back in than back out. For some reason, he thought it looked cooler to back in (WTF?) than to just park the damn car. That is until he backed his beloved MR2 over a curb (hee hee).
  • The only reason I could see for this is to make it easier to pull out when it's time to leave the space, because you have a better view of where you're going.
  • I don't find it difficult to back into a spot when I decide to do so; therefore, I think it takes me the same amount of time to back in as it does to back out (I back out of parking spaces slowly). The only reason I would ever back into a spot, however, is if I were ever worried about the difficulty I might have trying to get out later (e.g., parking garage).
  • It does take longer, some think it is cool to do it, there are times when it is nice, like leaving an event, that is super crowded, trying to back out is going to be a lot harder, when is is crowded, than trying to pull out.
  • If I back into a space it is because I will have a better view of pedestrians and traffic when I am preparing to leave. If there are lots of groceries blocking my view, if I am very tired or there are lots of things to look out for, it is safer this way. At home I back in so that I can see the neighborhood toddlers who play in the street. Backing in is easy. I can see all around me as I drive in, but backing out is usually view-impared.
