The Litte Brown Book is the bible of english grammer in the U.S. Isn't a lot of what's in it simply the opinions of the authoring committee on how the rest of us should write and speak and do you agree with all of it?

That is just your opinion. Do you think that the dictionary is just an opinion too? The Americans, being of diverse cultures have developed and used many words from many languages. These are not just a hap-hazzard picking of what we want them to mean. There was no committee that sat around thinking of what we should do with this, it was already fact and since people already adopted these words, then they became part of our common language. The book mearly is a factual file of our adopted language.

My opinion is that The Little Brown Book is fact-their grammar, without any reference to anybody else's grammar. If somebody else publishes their grammar, that would be a factual representation of their grammar, not opinion. In the above, "The Little Brown Book is fact-their grammar, without any reference to anybody else's grammar." is fact. The rest is opinion to demonstrate the difference between fact and opinion.
