I have not had one, but I regularly provide the anesthesia for this procedure. My HMO that I work for provides conscience sedation for this procedure. (usually insurance companies wont pay for anesthesia to come in for this, so I hope you have a good HMO that dictates its own care). In general, you will be given at least some Versed (anti-anxiety medicine) and most likely some demerol to help you relax. (I would give propofol, but it is not safe without anesthesia protecting your airway; don't let anyone use it on you if they are not either a CRNA or anesthesiologist). The actual procedure is very quick, under 5 min. usually and not too bad from what the patients tell me. Less uncomfortable than a colonoscopy. (and that's no big deal, really).
