  • Sure, for I was once inducted into the math society in high school. They usually overwhelm you with equations after equations, and so many polynomials that your head will spin. Then, you have to grease your hair and wear black rimmed glasses and sweater vests and go bash the first jock that gets a math problem run. If you survive that beatdown, you are in!
  • You are asked to prove an assertion about integers (the sum of a series, perhaps) that must be true for all integral values N. You start by showing that it's true for N=0 or N=1 or other low values (depending on the problem) Next you show that IF the statement is true for N, THEN it must also be true for N+1. Together, these constitute a proof by induction.
