I have done it, but after I got married my wife takes care of it. She is an expert: She worked at a sewing factory making shirts and other clothing items for the Sears and Eddie Bauer Catalogs. She can sew a button in a heartbeat.

Yep. I had to do that occasionally when I was in the Navy. I'd thread the needle so that the ends met and then tie them together with about 4 or 5 knots. Then I'd sew the thread through the holes about 8 times for extra strength.
