Ebay is VERY safe. I have been ripped off before but provided you follow the correct channels you will get your money back in 99% of situations, especially when you use Paypal.

As safe as any transactional site. Take sensible care over your dealings, keep your account details private, and use common sense. Oh yes. Seriously consider NEVER shipping to Nigeria. Not ever. If in doubt over emails sent to you, forward them to spoof@ebay.com and await their response before taking ANY action.

yes its safe and yes lots of people have been ripped off. look at the sellers rating and feedback as a sort of indicator - though new sellers need to make sales to get their ratings up too. best of luck

There is a website called Auction Errol which checks eBay auctions for you. I have only used it once, but certainly gives you a few clues.

I have never had a problem with Ebay. I used to purchase autographed sports memorabilia on Ebay to resell at area shows. I have been happy with everything. Make sure that you are buying from reputable sellers. Check their feedback and you should have no problems. I have check there for electronics and have not been happy with the ads. They all tend to look like scams to me. I never purchased electronics on Ebay. I have purchased nearly everything else. Good luck with your bidding.

Ebay is safer than most other websites out there. Wife has been an Ebay user for years and no problems so far. Paypal is very efficent and safe. Money transactions have always been secure. Just be careful of the people you are dealing with on Ebay. Check their references before buying or selling anything on Ebay.

Safer than many, nothing is 100%, and yes for sure.

I have been ripped off once (some crook was selling 'brand-new' hard drives which were actually factory reconditioned) but he was quickly removed from the site when complaints were made. Apart from that I've had quite a few good deals. Watch out for things going at too high a price, though - I have seen items on ebay going for much higher than shop prices.

Sellers are protected a lot more than the buyer. So its easy to not get ripped off as a seller.
-
Yes it is very safe. I purchased my computer from an Ebay seller with free shipping. The computer only cost me $60.00. I think that was a great deal. I have never had any problems.

I've been using eBay for years with no trouble. All of my purchases were exactly as represented. If you're not sure about something on an item listed, ask the seller. Every seller I've dealt with has been happy to answer my questions. Watch the shipping costs. I've seen items listed with low opening bids and horrendous and unjustified shipping prices. Insurance on your purchase is always a good idea. Hubby & I were nearly burned by a "second-chance offer" on a vehicle listed in eBay Motors. If you don't know what a second-chance offer is, it's when the item sells, the winner backs out for one reason or another, and the seller chooses to offer the item to the second-highest bidder. There's a fair potential for fraud with this practice. It turns out that a crook looks at the auction history, PRETENDS to be the seller, and contacts the second-highest bidder with an offer of sale and gives instructions to WIRE MONEY to XYZ. In our case, we'd recevied TWO second-chance offers on the car, one from the legitimate seller. So we're communicating with the seller and getting instructions from the fraud, and, not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, it took me a few emails to figure out what was going on. Another thing to look out for is unsolicited emails (phishing scams) from "eBay" and "PayPal" claiming a need to verify account info. I get A LOT of this. If it looks "really real," log into the PayPal or eBay site as you normally do and check for any messages there. Do not click the links in the phony email messages. In summary: - eBay is terrific. - beware of second-chance offers - Do not get sucked into legitimate-looking email from PayPal and eBay - ask any questions you have before bidding - make a note of any shipping costs before bidding - use shipping insurance if offered
