Might not be the best move to be like "White pride" or "Proud to be white"
-
Well, the KKK has kinda ruined that. Im just proud to be human! And I can knock back an 18 pack, thats cool too!
-
Kinda, it is also impossible to disagree with Israels policies without being antisemitic.
-
Groups like the KKK have not helped matters much in that area. I would not say that it is impossible to be openly proud to be white but it might be wise to avoid catch phrases like "white pride" or anything else used by the KKK, neo-Nazis, skinheads, and the like. I think it is rather sad. Other ethnicities can get away with being openly proud but whites cannot unless they are very careful. If I was white that would annoy me.
-
I'm not proud of being white, or female, or old, or Armenian American, or a good cook, or a loving parent..groups like the kkk are made up of frightened little people who are insecure and only feel good about themselves when they can have a mutual scapegoat.:) I'm proud of my son, my Jim, my family, my friends..not because they are white/black/brown/pink/polka dot but because they are loving, kind and good people. :)
-
In a way, yes..but it is not really the fault of the KKK. It is the fault of the narrow minded people who judge an entire community of people by the actions of a few. Some people use groups like the Klan to foster hate. There is nothing wrong with people taking pride in their ethnicity. An entire ethnic group should not be held responsible for the antics of a few within that ethnic group. For the most part, Black people are encouraged to be and are proud of their heritage. They are also encouraged to show it and there's nothing wrong with that. Same with other ethnic groups....except for Caucasians. If whites take pride in being white it equals racisim. Every ethnic group has certian "elements" within it that casts an unfavorable light upon that group. The entire group should not be held responsible. Simply because there are white people who parade around in sheets looking stupid, spouting off ridiculous ideas and some who wear swasticas and think white is the "superior race" does not mean we all feel this way and should not be penalized for the actions/ideas of a handful of idiots.
-
If white people were persecuted, or regarded as inferior, then I might indeed develop a pride in being white. As it is, white people tend to be in a privileged position in society, so there is no need. I am no more proud of being white than I am of my hat size.

Considering your question was posted in May, this is a late answer, for I've joined AB only recently. One can be proud of one's race, without feeling the least bit disdainful of people of other races. I don't think KKK members have anything against blacks as people. I don't think they shrink from shaking hands with a black or coloured person, and I'm sure they don't wash their hands afterwards. The colour doesn't come off, and well they know it. I'm quite sure rich KKK members employed (and perhaps still do) black cooks and nannies in their homes. The problem lies in the fact that they want blacks to remain inferior. They want to maintain the old master-slave relationship. In a fast-changing world as ours, these ideas will not sustain, and blacks are bound to raise themselves by sheer dint of education and hard work. This rage against reality is the cause of the violence employed against them, and their futile calls to exterminate all blacks. The only way out of their dilemma is to accept the changes that are happening in societies all over the globe. Acceptance of another person as a human being without consideration of race, religion or wahtever is the only way to achieve progress, material as well as moral. The sooner this is realised, the better off all will be, including, ironically, the race-prejudiced persons.

You ought to be proud of other things. Being proud of being white is what a white person is proud of if they don't have anything else to show the world.
-
i love being white i make no apologies for it, but it doesnt seem to be as big an advantage as it used to be. but still an advantage.
-
The problem with the KKK is that they support older beliefs and moralities which near fascism but which in most modernized countries have been abolsished, and in a day and age where it has more or less, but pretty much, been proven that all races are scientifically and technologically equal, or have the potential to be, their concept seems rather asinine, especially when considering that this may be where their pride stems from. Adhering to such beliefs and refusing to move on, whether it's white supremacy or religious issues, makes THEM appear to be inferior. :/

You should be able to be proud of whatever you want. The problem is that extremist groups of anything make the rest look bad. KKK is one extreme, and Islamic fundamentalists are another. If I were Muslim, and i was proud to be a more conservative one, that should be fine but when others even more conservative fundamentalists resort to terrorism, it would make me look bad. I had talked about this with one of my friends, about how if we suddenly established a "White Pride" day, and he immediately started going on about the KKK and how we didn't suffer like the African Americans so we don't deserve it. Its just the general connotation of "white pride" is now tainted by the KKK.

It is racist to be proud to be white. What do you have to be proud of? You weren't born white because of your merit to the skin colour: it was purely chance. You can't be proud of something that happened by chance, or for something that you didn't have anything to do with. Not only that, but what is there about being "white" that is there to be proud of? What are "white" people? They're just disparate persons with white skin. They're aren't a culture with a unified history or worldview. They aren't a community or nationality. White people haven't done anything as white people. I mean, you can be proud to be Irish, or Dutch, or Cree, or middle eastern ... but white? What does that even mean?
-
If you are proud of it, then dont worry about whatever other people think. Flaunt your pride as long as you do it in a respectful manner and don't let others confuse it with racism. Teach people the difference if they are so ignorant.
-
Basically, yes. The thing is, though. Why be proud to be white? I don't get it. I find it quite strange. I can understand being proud to be from your country, because you're proud of that country. But skin colour is such an insignificant thing. It's like me being proud to have dark hair. Which I'm not, and I'm not remotely proud that I'm white.

Proud To Be White Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc. ...And then there are just - Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You Call me "White boy," "Cracker," "Honkey," "Whitey," "Caveman," ...And that's OK. But when I call you Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink, ...You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Hispanic History Month. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Asian History Month. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Kawanza. You have the NAACP. And you have BET. If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) ...We'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day ...You would call us racists. If we had White History Month ...We'd be racists. If we had any organization for only whites to "advance" OUR lives, ...We'd be racists. We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that? If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the ? US, yet if there were "White-only Colleges" ...THAT would be a racist college. In the Million-Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, ...You would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and red, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride ...You call us racists. ! You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer who is running from the LAW and posing a threat to ALL of society ...You call him a racist. I am proud. ...But, you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists? There is nothing improper about this editorial. Let's see which of you are proud enough to send it on...
-
No, but they do make it difficult. There are many white cultures to enjoy, even if you're not Scottish/Celtic.
-
NO, if every other race can be proud of what they are then so shouldn't white people
-
yeah. lol. i may be feeding into that, but why would you go around saying that you're proud to be white? when i hear that from a white person, i think that they're saying they're glad that they're not another race. when i hear minorities say it, i think that they're saying that despite what groups like the kkk think, they're proud of their race. why not just say that you're proud to be an American?
-
Double standards make it difficult
-
Lots of people are openly proud to be white. I don't think i knew of any prouder people than the many irish and italian americans I grew up around. I have yet to see anyone complain that the huge st patrick's day festivals and parades are somehow racist.
-
why is anyone proud to be a color? i dont mean this in a bad way, but hey we are all human no matter what, shouldnt that be the only thing that matters. saying your proud to be (fill in the blank) only makes it seem as if you are going against other races.
-
Methinks that the color of your skin is a pretty slim thing to be proud of or ashamed of, no matter what color you are. Why not try having something worthy of pride, like character, education, faith, courage, or service to others.
