  • If you have known someone for many years why would the fact that they need glasses mean anything? Compliment them because you like them (your friend). If the glasses are ugly then go with them to 'window shop' for new frames without letting on that that's what you're doing. There's a store here with a very elaborate display in their window downtown. I've done that with friends. Purposely walked by and commented on 'oh wow those would look so great on you' and such.   • I got glasses when I was 12, and was too self-conscious to wear them. After I finally "gave in" and started wearing glasses all the time, many people commented. Although most people were positive about my change, it increased my sense of embarrassment, and I would have preferred it if they had pretended not to notice. Now that I am an adjusted full time wearer of glasses, people still compliment me when I get a new pair. And I like that. My perspective has changed totally since I finally got to accept the fact that I need my glasses all the time.
