I'm sure they'd let someone "choose", but when I was in the US Navy they let you choose where you wanted to be stationed and then they'd station you at the base they chose for you instead. ;)

Military decisions vary world wide ... it will depend on which nation's military, as well as what "open positions" they have ... here in Canada, your first "round" of enlistment does NOT include such choices, but if/when you choose to re-enlist, then "some" choices of this type are offered, but you still must choose from what bases are offered and not from ALL bases.
