  • I think it is within your rights to make a direct request to this person that they stop immediately. If possible have a manager there when you do this. You have a right to work without anyone making a joke about your accent or country of origin. That represents harrassment in the workplace and is against the law. If the behavior does not stop then you really should file a formal complaint. Then it becomes your manager's problem. Sorry you are going through this. People can be knob-ends.
  • If you'd rather try to avoid debsmooth's way, try "correcting" him. I assume he slips into an English accent himself. Believe it or not, some people do so and don't even realize they do. If you correct him when he mispronounces a word, then YOU are teasing him back. It makes for a much nicer workplace if the teasing didn't occur when it apparently hurts, but by the same token, if you can "give as much as you can get" then you both can just have fun with it. If he's seriously hurting you with the way he's teasing, then go debsmooth's way. If it's simply annoying, try my way, and see what happens. You can ALWAYS tell him to stop, it's not funny any more, and, if he doesn't confront him with the manger.
