  • I am unsure what your question is. y = cos x If you add a horizontal shift of pi radians to the left... y = cos(x-π) All we did was shift the graph to the left 1 pi radians... Now, we add a horizontal compression factor... y = cos[3(x-π)] ... this squeezes everything together into 1/3 the space. Now, we add a vertical stretch factor... y = 2⋅cos[3(x-π)] ... stretches everything up and down. By negating it, we reflect it across the access... in this case the x-axis... y = -2⋅cos[3(x-π)] Add a vertical shift of five units up... by adding 5 y = -2⋅cos[3(x-π)] + 5
