When do you think the studios will abandon the theater concept completely and release all movies straight to DVD?

Never, I hope. There are just some movies that MUST be seen on a BIG screen in a theater. Home theaters (unless yours is HUGE and completely AWESOME) just don't do them justice.

I hope never...some films need the smell of popcorn to be enjoyable...as well as the enormous screen! I do wish cinemas were cheaper, though...

Studios will abandon the Theatre concept when it is pried from their cold dead hands. The truth is that the majority of money made by the studio from a film comes from sales to theatre chains. When you plop down ten bucks (or more) to see a movie almost 100% of that goes to the releasing company (and thus to the studios). The theatre chain gets it's profits from selling the movie-goer 35¢ worth of buttered popcorn for 4 dollars. Hope this helps.
