I think if it takes a long time for them to come around then I have a hard time believing they really get it or care, they may just want to mend bad blood and they tell you sorry just to get over it. So I don't feel like it is "real". Depending on the case, of course. If it is something that happened a long time ago and had no long lasting effects then I wouldn't hold the grudge, but if it effected my whole life and future plans I would have a hard time just letting it go for old times sake. Apologies are always a nice gesture but depending on the person and situation it might not be enough.

When we open our mouth in anger and say things we really do not mean, it hurts those we care for. So we cannot take back things we have said and done. so I think we should think twice before we say something to those we love. It can cause irrepairable damage.
