I only remember them on TV and just assumed it was because they didn't wanna use brands.
-
The Dharma Initiative stockpiled some on the show "Lost".
-
Yes! I remember them! Haven't seen them in many years...
-
Those weren't just sitcom props?
-
I remember! My dad used to drink that stuff! I've been wondering if they made it anymore, as well.
-
Yes, I remember those. I seem to also remember quite a few products that had those generic labels.

Found it!

I also found this, which I personally think would be awesome to have ;)

I do remeber those. I'm not sure where you would still find it. I bet you could find some of those cans online somewhere though.

I used to frequent a bar called, 'Joe's Generic Bar,' in Austin, TX. They sold it for fifty cents a can. Tasted like crap, but for a guy on a budget who wanted a cold beer and listen to good blues music? A life-send.

I believe that the Kroger grocery store chain pioneered the "generic" and they sold many other products with the same type of labelling.
-
I have not seen them in decades. However a we just printed a bunch of white koozies to emulate a canned generic beer from the college days. http://www.canhuggers.com

I don't know about the cans, but I worked at a grocery store back in 1991, and they had generic BEER in bottles. Never tried it myself. I can't imagine it was any different, other than the packaging. If I recall (that was 18 years ago), we only had ONE customer who actually bought it. I worked with a guy in 1995 who said himself and a friend slammed a CASE of "beer beer" (as it was usually called), and he said they barely caught a buzz.
