My PS2 won't switch on. I get a red standby light, but nothing happens if I press either button. I have replaced the power switch ribbon cable, but still nothing. Any suggestions?

its just exactly what happened to my own ps2.
we tried to change everything from the switch mechanisms to the cable ribbons but nothing happened until we found out that a very small solder loosened.after running a few diagnostics the console came back to life!
try using a magnifying glass to look over the board's underside for loose solder debris but make sure to wear latex gloves to prevent palm sweating and ground out the board.
