Who believes pitbulls are the meanest breed of dogs? (and no its not that i don't like them, its just i want to know ppl's opinions of them)

It's based on how they are raised. A friend of mine bred pit's and had one that was THE BIGGEST baby I'd ever seen. She just slobbered all over me and wanted to play and be cuddled.

People who own them say they are good dogs,its the owners who don't train or handle them properly.

Depends on the owner, I've had tiny Yorkshire terriers growl and bite at me, and pitbulls falling asleep on my lap :)

I think pitbulls are like any other breed. If people treat them badly, then they are going to be bad to people. If you train them correctly and lovingly, you will have a good dog. Though, just due to what you see with Rotties and Dobermans, I wouldn't trust them with smaller dogs. I have a hard time trusting my greyhound with smaller dogs and their breed is known to be good with other animals at times. Really, it fully depends on the individual animal and the masters treatment of said animal.

It usually isn't the breed, but the owner. I have seen nice pitbulls and really nasty little mini shits. I think small dogs can be meaner sometimes then bigger breeds, but again a lot of it is because of the owner.

Pitbulls were bred specifically for fighting, and thus have a stronger prey drive than most breeds. However it also depends on how the owner raises and treats the dog. Many people who own pitbulls raise them to be aggressive so they can act as guard dogs, which adds to the breeds notoriety

I think that Pitbulls are made to be strong dogs and thats it. But as for how there are so many pitbulls that you hear about attacking their owner or attacking children and so on, I think that is all from how they were raised! There are a lot of people who train pitbulls to have the average reputation of a pitbull which is mean, aggresive, and strong and that is where those traits come from. Its not 100%-the dog, its about 90%-trainer and 10%-the dog! So ofcourse, most people who get pitbulls want and are going to train them to be mean and aggresive because that is how most pitbulls are trained and now they have that reputation for all of them. So my opinion is that they are strong but if they were raised as normal house pets then they could be normal house pets! We used to have 2 very sweet pitbulls ourselfes!

I don't have any thing against Pitbulls but I do have something against the owners who don't train them to be good doggy citizens and who let them run around the neighbor town unattended. When you own a Pitbull, Rottweiler or any dog for that matter, you need to be a very responsible person and not let your dog become a problem for others. If Pitbulls are ever banned it will be the fault of bad owners and not the dogs. If you own a dog of any kind, but especially Pitbulls, you should also never assume that since your dog behaves loving and nice around you and your kids and other family pets, that it will behave the same if allowed to roam around. Chances are good that it won't.

Statistics are scientific data utilized to determine the basis for valid consensus. Pitbulls, rotweillers and other dogs have been under consideration to be illegal because they have attacked, maimed and killed human beings.
