Oh I'm 16 too, but I haven't heard about this yet, seems important..Well try to learn more about cervical cancer first, like how does someone get cervical cancer? If possible, do what you can to prevent it. If it's genetics/by 'chance,' then you should probably try getting a teacher/aunt/close family member to try to convince your mom. See if there's any side effects to the vaccine, because if not, then you can tell her that it won't harm you, and all that it's going to do is protect you. If it really worries you, sit down with your mom and explain how it could mean the difference between life and death, if it's really that serious. Good luck!

Personally, I wouldn't be rushing out to get an experimental vaccine.

I would think that, at 16, you could walk into a doctor and ask him to do it without mum knowing. I don't know the laws where you come from, but girls of 16 can have their own health cards here in Australia. They can buy contraceptives without their mothers' permission. I would ring your doctor and ask.

HPV stands for Human Papillomavirus. HPV is a sexually transmitted infection, and some types of it can cause cervical cancer. So a vaccine against HPV will greatly reduce the risk of cervical cancer. HPV is not a vaccine, a vaccine against HPV is not a vaccine against cervical cancer. http://www.webmd.com/sexual-conditions/hpv-genital-warts/cervical-cancer-hpv-what-women-girls-should-know

So... if you get sick, does your mom just pray for you to get better? (I really do want an answer to that.) I'd talk to her about it and show her how important it is to you.

So don't bother convincing her. In America, you can get legally emancipated and get a job, apply for benefits, and get the vaccine on your own.

The HPV vaccine was not tested in clinical studies. If you get it you will be part of the test. Are you willing to be a guinea pig? There have been many problems associated with this vaccine, including death. Not to mention that they only THINK HPV causes cervical cancer, it has not been proven yet. There are certain vaccines you should get and not get for different reasons. But at least those have been proven to work. This one is still in the testing stages, and you will be one of the testee's. Think long and hard before you get this vaccine. Read a lot about it. As far as how to convince your mom? The same answer I give to anyone who wants to do anything against their parents wishes when they live at home. You don't. Get a job, get independent, become and adult and make your own decisions. Until then you live at home with the woman who is paying for your clothes, food and shelter. Respect her wishes.
