NOT getting your piano tuned is expensive. If you don't have it tuned periodically, the wood around the pegs will quite possibly deform to the point where it can't be tuned without being rebuilt. Also, if you are any good as a musician, you'll find that you just don't play an untuned piano very much--in which case it turns into a big, clunky piece of not very useful furniture taking up space and getting in the way. Tune it or give it away.
