Meat does supply some essential minerals and vitamins to a stable diet, however vegetarians can easily supplement the loss of these minerals and vitamins by using artificial vitamin tablets or by being careful as to what vegetables they do eat. It is neither healthier not unhealthier to eat meat. It just tastes better :)

In studies it has been proven there is a coorelation between vegetarianism and a reduced risk of cancer and many other diseases. While it is true though that vitamins can be taken much of the vitamins are not absorbed into the body and you're really paying for an expensive waste. At any rate though, during pregnancy at times meat is more required though in some cases it isn't. Ideally adding some fish and lean meat in (and at times red meat but limited) is better for the diet scientifically. (I have been a vegetarian for 9 years, this is including no personal bias).

It's not meat right?

animal crackers have no meat in them, so it is still within the "rules" and beliefs of a vegetarian to eat animal crackers, but it depends. Maybe they would find it cruel to do so. You can stay perfectly healthy, even without eating meat. As long as you substitute it with other forms of protein, sich as beans.

Not to change the subject, but your question reminds me of the time that i made beef jerky in the shape of little cows. I use ground beef and Nesco Jerky Spice mix.

You have two distinctly different questions. The first: They're not meat, so there is no reason not to eat them. The second: Only when vegetarians do not eat foods with enough protein to compensate for their lack of meat, i.e. legumes, tofu, etc.
