When writing the word "Communism," should it be capitalized? How about "Socalism?"

"Socialism" is one of "ism"s (e.g. liberalism, imperialism, social Darwanism) and as such is not capitalized. Communism can be written without a capital "C" when used in the context of its definition or execution in an environment. It is capitalized when referring to the Communist Party, Communist Russia and similar cases where it it is referring to an entity. If you aren't sure of the context, it is safer to "err" on the side of capitalizing the word.
