My tv will work when i am plugged to out side power. it wont work on generator power every thing else seems to work fine

Make sure the generator is earthed correctly - if it isn't, it wont work.

it also depends what size and WATTage needed to power the tv,,, a 200 watt genset wont fire up a 500 watt demand tv. I have a 800 genset to run micro,and tv and vcr/dvd player cuz I can get 12 hrs off of 1.5 gallons of gas. The built in genset, which is a 15 K will run 4 hrs on 3 gallons of gas which is a waste for minut appliances. when parked and using lights a/c's micro and tv and such is only time i us big genset,
