The easiest thing is to replace your current DVD player with a player that supports DviX/Xvid. You can pick up a Philips DVP642/37 at Walmart for $50 and at other discount places you may see refurbished ones for even less. This player is the best standard DVD player made. It does not upscale to High Def but still outputs an impressive 480p signal. It supports all but the most recent DviX codecs (DviX Ultra) and can be unlocked to play DVDs from all regions. It also has a built in PAL to NTSC converter to allow seamless playing of PAL discs in North America. You download an avi file, burn it to a disc (CD or DVD) and stick it in the machine... tada! It plays. This machine is so versatile that if you where to place a frozen pizza on the tray, it would play an Italian movie. (NOTE: the previous sentence was a joke and not a claim from the manufacturer) This solution avoids all the humdrum of getting the proper program, figuring out how to use it, waiting for the conversion and finally, burning just one film to a DVD disc. Using this player has allowed me to burn an entire season of a TV show to one DVD5 disc (or with longer shows, 2 discs). Hope this helps
