Di di mau is taken from the Vietnamese language phrase Ä‘i Ä‘i mau meaning "go go quickly." Äi means "go" in Vietnamese. "Mau" means "fast, quick". The repetition of "Ä‘i" turns the phrase into an imperative. The phrase was brought to America and spread by military personnel returning from Vietnam, and by Vietnamese immigrants. The term is used often in The Simpsons including the episode "Skinner's Sense of Snow," when Bart is forcing Skinner to climb a rope and write on the blackboard.
