Garlic is a natural anticoagulent and has astringent properties so it helps fight infection and is good for the heart and high cholesterol.

Another benefit is that levels of glutathione-S-transferase were 42 percent higher among the animals eating high-garlic diets. Glutathione-S-transferase is an enzyme that helps the liver detoxify carcinogens and other dangerous chemicals. So it fights cancer on a molecular and cellular level as well.

Yes ... both inside and out

Inside ... It has great health and remedial capabilities.

Outside ... the odor tends to keep others away thus preventing them from breathing on you and spreading their flu or cold germs etc :)

Most of the modern research on garlic has concentrated on its ability to lower cholesterol and blood pressure as well as offering protection against strokes and heart disease. For example, when the Journal of the Royal College of Physicians reviewed data on cholesterol in 1993, it found that after just four weeks there was a 12 per cent reduction in cholesterol levels in the research groups that had taken garlic.

Scientists have also looked at the role garlic plays in helping prevent the formation of blood clots. A review of recent clinical trials, published in the Journal of Hypertension, showed that taking garlic tablets cut volunteers' blood pressure by between one and five per cent. These results led the report's authors to conclude that taking supplements could cut the incidence of stroke by anything from 30-40 per cent, while heart disease could be reduced by 20-25 percent.

While garlic is gathering a reputation for helping to maintain a healthy heart, regular amounts of garlic seems to also help the body fight off infections. These antibacterial effects were first discovered in the early 19th century during an outbreak of infectious fever - English priests caught the fever but the French priests, who ate garlic every day, remained healthy. However, you don't need to suffer with a fever to benefit from garlic's health enhancing properties.

Garlic is very good for you. It can lower blood pressure. During the time of the Civil War it was used like an antibiotic on wounds. And it works better then any over the counter medicine for curing the symptoms of a cold, like being congested. If you chop up and swallow down 2 or 3 cloves of fresh raw garlic the mucus in your sinuses will break up and run right out, so you can breath again for a while, it lasts several hours before you have to do it again and is far safer to use then the stuff from the store. Garlic also makes your cold leave faster. If I take garlic the moment I feel I'm catching a cold, I don't get it at all. The only bad thing is that it will make you smell bad. There are tons of other benefits to garlic as well, you might look it up on line.

Garlic packs a powerful punch in fighting more than one type of cancer. Studies have shown that both allicin and allyl sulfur, active garlic ingredients, are particularly effective in staving off stomach, prostate and colon cancers. Easy to incorporate in many types of meals, be sure to avoid micro-waving this little gem: Roasting or micro-waving can destroy its anti-cancer properties, unless the bulb is chopped or crushed and allowed to stand for 10 minutes to cooking.

Yes. It helps to get the deodorized liquid gel caplets instead of the regular ones. I once purchased the regular ones and made me burp leaving me a bad pizza garlic aftertaste. It will keep others away....

Yes garlic is good for you, it contains sulphur compounds that can lower blood pressure, suppress cholesterol production and raise levels of beneficial high density
    lipoproteins or LDLs.
It also has antiviral and antibacterial properties, however there are some drawbacks in that it can induce migraines and occasionally cause contact dermatitis as well as causing bad breath.

Yeah, garlic is good for. Other posters covered most of the benefits, so I won't regurgitate it. However I didn't see anyone cover this (if they did, I apologise): garlic looks like it might have some anticarcinogenic (anti cancer causing) properties.

Garlic has a long history of use, even going back to ancient Egypt. In the 20th century, during World War I, it was used as an antibiotic. Louis Pasteur considered it to be an effective germicide. Its main ingredient is called allicin, but is present in very small amounts in most garlic tablets. It is produced when the garlic is chewed, or crushed. My mother, who has had a stroke, as a result of high blood pressure, started to take garlic tablets and was able to lower her blood pressure by 11%. It may even be effective against cancer cells. Research earlier this year, found that it was an effective treatment against the superbug MRSA. In an English study, individuals with MRSA, who had open areas for many years, were able to heal these areas after taking garlic. Here's a page that provides more information on garlic: http://www.home-remedies-digest.com/garlic.html
