You may be hearing the change in wind noise as the plane lowers its flaps. This changes the shape of the wing giving it more lift.

It may be the doppler effect. A noisey body approaching will get higher in pitch, then lower as it moves away. This is because of the sound waves being bunched together, then spaced farther apart.

Depending on how close your house is to the end of the runway, you may be hearing the pilot reducing power to slow for touchdown. I hear that a lot at my house, because I'm less than two miles and just off the final approach.
