I agree with protecting our natural environment, but not necessarily "preserving" it solely for one species (including our own). The natural world is ever changing and cannot be "preserved" only managed. We do not know nearly enough to do that well. I think moneys being spent on space exploration, weapons, the war on drugs, etc. would be better spent on learning as much about our natural world, here on earth, so that we would know how to manage our resources. Only through knowledge can we even begin to make positive changes in our current habits and do what is truly best for our world.
