what a difficult one, if she's not in pain and is getting some enjoyment out of life, enjoying her food and the love you give her, then why end it. However, things can change so rapidly and who knows what tomorrow might bring. I think I would monitor her closely and keep her with me as long as I reasonably could, but the moment she started showing signs of discomfort I would take her to the vet.

My grandma is deaf, blind and has no use of her legs. Should i just throw her away? Pets aren't just pets, they're family members. If she isn't in any pain then why put her down?

If she is not in pain, her quality of life is probably as good as any dog could wish, being in a loving family. However, do keep her under the regular care of a vet. Ask the vet to examine her for a potential "final visit". I took my dog in every three months for over a year after she started down the hill. We finally had to give up when she developed inoperable tumors and they were painful. The vet was very understanding and helped us through the painful experience.

hm.. in matters like this, it's always best to remember the proverb "stop while the game is still fun". She's had a good long life I'm sure and she's not in pain YET. I would advise you giving her a good, short painless death. Rather that than keep waiting till the point where she is in obvious pain, because then you've already been waiting for too long

gold autumn has a point but put it a lil harshly. my grandma had a chiwawa quite a few years back lovely old dog. was deaf and blind too. she was extremely attached to her because it was all she had left of her mum who died. my gran had the dog for 5 years i think. she made the descision to let her live and just go when the time came. the dog died a week later. sad but she said she wouldnt have done it anyother way. its all up to you if the dog is in pain it would be best to send her on her way. if she isnt and you can care for her, let her go when she wants to go. she is part of your family, so the choice is yours no matter what you decide im sure it will be the best for you girl. she will ove you either way good luck.
