  • I've been running Ubuntu 8.04LTS for about a week now, and I think its a good version of Ubuntu Linux (1Ghz, 256MB RAM, 32MB AGP video). I left the default Compiz video "eye candy" in place, but even with my weaker video card and RAM the "eye candy" doesn't seem to slow the system down at all. I like the new progress dialog boxes better than in v7.10, because they give you a more detailed description of how far along a file copy has gone. The only real complaint I've had so far is kind of technical, in that in version 7.10 if I "Connect To Server" with a FTP-with-login connection, and specify a home directory on the server machine, Ubuntu 7.10 would open a file browser window to the specified home directory on the server machine. Ubuntu 8.04LTS has consistently opened a file browser window into the root directory ("/") instead of the specified home directory. I'm hoping that I've just mistyped something in vsftpd.conf, or that the behavior will be corrected in an update.
