  • Someone who comes from the midwest..their speech is the most clear and understandable by others. :)
  • I learned English as a second language, and I can say that Midwestern English is the easier to understand, specially when spoken slowly.
  • When I worked in an English School in Korea, I asked a similar question because the school I worked at had teachers from Australia, England, the U.S., but the majority were from Canada. The manager said they preferred hiring Canadians because our "accents" were the easiest to understand. We, apparently, speak more clearly and in a less "exaggerated" way... which I still haven't figured out the meaning of...
  • It depends on if the person is immersed in the culture/language or not. People who begin learning after their teens will most likely always have something (accent) of their native (first) language. If they're living in an English speaking country, the local dialect will be the easies to learn since they're who the person encounters on a daily basis. I know a lot of people who learn English as a Foreign Language (not in a native English speaking country) have a lot of difficulty learning from teachers from different native English speaking countries ...
  • If they're going to learn it, they should be taught it with the original accent. And out of all the English accents, i would say an accent from somewhere in the very middle of the country =] x

  • Ideally the British accent is the right start however it is acceptable in most countries to start English lesson in the accent most comfortable to the student and thereafter they will learn to see the difference from the original as they advance.
  • Throughout the US, the midwestern accent is the one most easily understood by others and you'll find that it is the accent that is the most sought-after for broadcasting positions because of this.
  • I'd suggest English accent (as opposed to Scottish, Welsh, Irish or American etc.) and I'd avoid any strong accent like Scouse, Geordie etc... I'd suggest that either a south-eastern accent, as they tend to be the most clear and therefore you can learn most other accent from that one...
