  • I don't know for sure about the special license but it's logical that you do. You certainly need to be 'checked out' in that airplane.
  • "Special License" - No. "Type Rating" - yes. A type rating is necessary for large (gross weight over 12,500 lbs), jet powered, or any other aircraft the FAA deems necessary (usually to complex operation). A normal License Category - (Private, Commercial, ATP) works for any operating privilege, but the type rating can be added to any of the aforementioned licenses once training and a check ride is done for the type rating.
