  • The tax break on gas is a band-aide on a gapping and gushing wound. The 18 cents is to "help alleviate" some of the strain and, to be honest, to get votes. Why else would Clinton and McCain both agree on it? They can't cut TOO many taxes because we need taxes to operate our government. What do you think pays for roads? Pissed about that pothole that nearly swallowed your vehicle? Well, taxes pay for road repairs. Don't understand why the EPA has no funding to further their studies and/or their regulatory work? Yep - taxes pay for that, too. The bigger problem is our demand for oil, our national attachement to "bigger is better" vehicles, our collective reluctance to buy more fuel efficient vehicles, the auto manufacturers price gaugung hybrids (why pay $25k for a Prius when you can get an F-150 for $15k???) and WHO we buy the oil from - let's not forget - the oil producers of the world are the wealthiest nations in the world.
  • It's a load of malarkey. Try something substantial like $2.00 off. 18¢ is an insult to our intelligence.
  • What tax break on gas? When is it?
