Is body-language really more truthful than words - so that even the person doing it (the gestures etc.,) is unaware they are contradicting themselves?

Unless a person has really gone out of their way to be absolutely aware of their own body language and wants to hide it. I'd have to say absolutely! Anytime in the past, when my ex's did anything bad, they would lie to my face but you could still tell what they did.

Yes, body language speaks volumes, if you know what to look for, there are many signs.

Sometimes gestures are learned in early childhood, the same way speech patterns are, so I would not presume a 100% co-relation between body language and mental/emotional state/intent. That said, if you know a person well and know their usual body language, and you notice a big change, THEN I might believe that some truth is not being openly expressed.
