It's understandable that small churches are tax exempt, but why should mega-large, mega-wealthy churches be exempt from taxation?

The definition of a non-profit organization is "a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes." I agree that mega-churches do not fit this description and should be taxable. While they may promote SOME activities for purposes other than profit, certainly they engage in many activities for the purpose of generating a profit.
