I'm sure they found ways ;)

I don't really have a source to back this up. but I don't believe they saw significant action until the "Korean Police Action" There I believe they were mostly used for medical evacuation and reconnaissance purposes.

Yes, in WW2 they saw action in the German navy for spotting Submarines from 1939 onwards. They took off from and landed on Ships. The Flettner 265 and 282 were used for this. They could drop marker flares and small depth charges. The larger FA223 were also used for airlifting and recovering crashed Aircraft , medivac and troop movements in the Alps and for spotting enemy movements and directing artillery against the Russians. Allied Helicopters were used for some medical evacuations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SrUyNG4fYA

The only reference I have of WWII helicopter use was the Germans used them to some extent to supply their mountain divisions or "Gebirgsjagers" in remote mountainous areas in some instances and even that was extremely limited. I'm sure there must be others but helicopter technology wasn't quite as advanced during WWII as it was just a few years later in Korea.
