If you calculate on the prices work by contemporary artists are sold, it would have to be Damien Hirst, Jasper Johns, Lucian Freud, Gerhard Richter, Peter Doig and a bunch of Chinese painters who are currently very successful on the market. But there are other factors to reckon with, like the cost of production (which in Hirst's case is enormous) or the amount of work produced (with for instance in Lucian Freud's case is very little). So it is hard to tell. The ones mentioned here will definitely not complain about their income, and there are quite a few more that are pretty wealthy.
