Of course. A nymphomaniac is someone who is basically a sexaholic...they'll take it anywhere, any way they can get it from anyone at any time. Many porn stars are and have ADMITTED to being nymphomaniacs, and use the adult industry as a method of fulfilling their craving.

Hence mister_c's ranting and raving is based mostly on blatant misunderstanding of this answer.

Don't confuse being a nymphomaniac with being addicted to sex. I haven't checked the DSM lately, but in standard psychiatric parlance a while back, nymphomania was characterized by an inability to climax. The quality of apparently boundless desire resulted from desperate repeated attemps. The condition is serious and not at all erotic, though it may ape the erotic for those to whom a nymphomaniac makes him- or herself available. (As I say, I'm not up on the latest lingo, but I'm betting this is still around, and still a serious illness.)

I'm not sure I agree with the statement "Many porn stars are nymphomaniacs, and use the adult industry as a method of fulfilling their craving."

This sounds to me like a way of assuaging male guilt caused by looking at porn. It's presumably better to assume that the girls are doing it because they really have some insatiable sexual craving than it is to realise that some girls go into porn out of desperation and a need to make a quick buck, and often become embittered and cynical. I'm not a prude, by the way; like most men I enjoy pornography. I just think that it's important to not lose sight of the fact that many girls that go into pornography do so with some naivety and get used by an industry that treats them as an infinite resource to be exploited.

    Phew, sorry for the rant!

By the way, the term nymphomaniac always refers to a female. As the old joke says, there is no word for a male nymphomaniac since that appears to be our "default setting", as it were!

Edit: Thanks, Absolute2Absolute, I am aware of the word "satyr". I was attempting to make a joke.

    Never mind!

As stated, a nymphomaniac is a woman who seems to have an unfulfillable craving for sexual activity (does that make me one?).

In this respect, MP1116 has the right information: many porn stars have admitted addiction to sex, and some have even used the term 'nympho' to describe themselves, and many of those same stars revealed that they never would have joined the industry otherwise.

In this regard, mister_c is also quite correct, however I agree with MP1116 that mister_c blatantly misunderstood his answer and his attack/rant was a MAJOR overreaction.

I can only speak for myself (satyrisis)is very real.I used to think it was a blessing, but now I consider it a curse. To a young single man, being able to outlast every woman you become intimate with is such a boost to your ego that you overlook the fact that you are not being satisfied. You can flaunt your abilities with a new woman the next night. The problem is that no matter how many orgasms you have,or how many hours your lovemaking session lasts, your sex drive does not decrease at all.
