Make sure your members are hypocritical and profess loudly yours is the only true way. Don't forget to condemn those with opposing views. After that, stage a schism which allows one small sect to teach about love.

Make sure your priests are allowed to have sex. Bad, BAD things happen otherwise. Be VERY careful on the first version of your holy book, or that can come back to bite you in the ass. Don't exclude certain foods, cuz that's just retarded and pointless. Instruct all your followers to answer people's FAQ's with "Just because". That will save everyone a lot of time and grief in the long run, might prevent a few hundred wars too. Make sure your prophet is well armed and wears a vest at all times. If the church collects money, they provide beer and pizza at prayer. One thing you can copy from the Catholics is their school girl uniforms, everyone should. Amen
