I think that anybody who feels strongly that they want to make that sort of commitment can do the proposing, I like to think of it as tradition rather than responsibility ;0)

i think it depends on the couple. i would like my future husband to propose to me, but i don't think that it is necessarily a man's responsibility.

Not anymore. All that kneeling down nonsense is gone and puts too much pressure on men anyhow. I'd just bring it up and then we would discuss it. It's not fair to put so much pressure on a woman either because it's like saying either marry me or stomp on my heart.
