It depends on the person, a guilable person can be brainwashed by tv commercials. Having said that, I am not saying the Bible is not the truth.

I'd say it gives people some direction, if they're searching for something to believe in.

The bible is a book, as such it is incapable of doing any such thing. People can use the bible to brainwash people, but on its own the bible CAN NOT brainwash anyone.

Anybody who is prone to believing everything they hear can be taken in by just about anything - a skillful preacher/politician etc will convince people to become followers by giving a good performance, by being credible and by giving the impression that their interpretation of a situation is the only right one. Of course, some people just want something to believe in. The bible itself does not brainwash anyone - it is how it is read and interpreted that does the damage.
