  • I think it is a tie between Orca and Elephants for the most intelligent animal. Although all dolphins are intelligent, very few actually live up to the public's idea of dolphin intelligence. Orca definetly show the top dolphin intelligence. Orca, Pilot whales and Elephants have a social structure just as complex as humans. Male Orca live with their mothers their entire life and will help raise the young of other male Orca (extremely rare...as most dolphin species participate in 'infanticide'), they have dialects, they have incredible memory, they work together to form some of the most sophisticated hunting methods in the world, they care for each other (helping the sick, even helping humans sometimes). They are also intensely curious and learn by observation as well as have a soicety of 'allomothers'. Elephants also have an extremely social life...they understand death (such as burying the dead, distinguishing elephant bones, visit dead bodies etc), they help other herd members (such as slowing down for an limping elephant etc), they have 'allomothers', they have a good memory, they are excellent painters as well as using a range of tools. They are also known to be able to follow semantics and mimic sounds.
