I have several antiques. My favorite is a large pie cupboard with the punched out tin in-lay. My grandmother had it on her back porch in the elements for years (it had been painted white). When she gave it to me, it was a mess - the shelves were even lined with that really sticky groovy flower shelf liner. It was on there good. I had the piece stripped and then a dear friend of mine painstakingly refinished it for me as a baby gift for my first child's birth. It is beautiful and probably worth $800-900 or so. It even has square nails, so it's very old.

Other than myself? I'm invaluable, of course! I have a lawyer's bookcase and a cherry sideboard that belonged to my maternal grandparents, a rocking chair that belonged to my paternal grandfather and a valet stand and some gorgeous quilts from my great-grandmother. The only one I've had valued is the valet stand, worth $450.

Sure do. My wife Inherited her Great Grandmothers bedroom suite. It was so old that it is almost solid black. I was thinking or restoring it to a better condition so I took the carved frame part that held a small beveled mirror to a local Antique Dealer to ask him what he would recommend to refinish the pieces, four in all.Two dresser, a wash basin, and a bed. He looked at the frame and almost immediately asked me if I knew anything about them. I told him how we came to own the furniture. Then he showed me a portion of the carving at the top of the mirror frame, which looked like a goose egg with a swirled ribbon running top to bottom from one side to the other. He explained to me that this was the signature of the person that made the piece, and that the persons name was Prudent Mallard, New Orleans (1809-1879) He told me not to do anything to the pieces, that refinishing them would deduct from the value and to take out a separate policy on my home insurance for at least 25 to 30 thousand. Needless to say I was shocked. That is what inspired me to start buying antiques, and we now have several in every room of our house.

An old book, Yes I got this book by chance and is now the most preserved asset i feel i have ever possessed. The book of English Grammar was printed in 1898 during colonial rule in India and every page of this wrapper-torn book makes me proud of my grandpa who preserved it for me. All that is OLD is GOLD They give Happiness MANIFOLD
